Building shared record-clearance infrastructure
With support from the California Access to Justice Commission, we built the Clean Slate Engine. CSE is a secure end-to-end application that uses computational law principles to extract data from California criminal records, analyze remedies, and generate county-specific petition packets for attorney review.
Expanding the capacity of legal organizations
Legal aid organizations, public defenders, and reentry programs run the Clean Slate Engine inside their own workflows. The platform gives their staff and volunteers the infrastructure to handle more record-clearance cases without adding administrative burden, extending the reach of the teams already doing this work.
Making clean slate resources accessible
Through our Clean Slate Hub, TAP provides free, practical resources for navigating record clearance: an interactive county map with filing procedures and court requirements, a clean slate FAQ, declaration guidance, and step-by-step instructions for obtaining a California RAP sheet.
